York Beyond the Blue is dedicated to serving the spouses & families of York Regional Police officers. We strive to promote an awareness of our officers' worth as well as an understanding of the joys and struggles that are uniquely experienced in a life in law enforcement.
Spouses and children of law enforcement officers face a unique set of circumstances that lends itself to the need for emotional support, better awareness, training and tools to enable police families to thrive with their roles as a support system for their police officer. York Beyond The Blue coordinates resources that aid in offering training & practical tools to police spouses and families for the enrichment of family life with a law enforcement officer.

I’m proud of the work York Regional Police has done, and continues to do, to support the health and wellbeing of our members and their families."
Chief Eric Jolliffe, York Regional Police

“As spouses and family members we are the true first responders to our first responders. At times it can be difficult to watch your loved one struggle and not know where to turn. I am grateful that I knew where to turn when my husband, a York Regional Police Officer, was struggling, however I fear what the outcome would have been, if I had not.”
- Jen Thompson
In the Fall of 2013, approximately 30 spouses of Calgary police officers attended a weekend retreat together. Although they barely knew each other, they came away not only as friends but also with a common vision to create an organization to focus on issues that affect police families, and felt we could relate to and support each other.
While most police departments offer support to their officers, there is little support for the everyday issues we, as police families, struggle with. We believe that if we have friends who understand our fears, frustrations, joys and triumphs, we can truly be encouraged by one another. Beyond The Blue was born out of this common goal with the support and endorsement of the Calgary Police Service and Calgary Police Association.

After collaboration between Calgary Beyond The Blue and York Regional Police - York Beyond The Blue was born in 2016; uniting police families from opposite ends of our country.
