THE WOLF WAS NOT SLEEPING
Just in time for First Responder’s Day on May 1 and Mental Health Week May 3-9, the Peer Support Unit and York Beyond the Blue is very proud to offer a free children’s book to all members, called The Wolf Was Not Sleeping.
Written by Avril McDonald, the story was originally commissioned by the New Zealand Firefighters Welfare Society to help address concerns and anxiety that children have about their loved ones serving as a first responder.
The book tells the tale of a young wolf, whose father is a police officer. The young wolf has trouble sleeping because he is frightened for his dad’s safety. After learning of his son’s fears, the father takes the time to explain his job and responsibilities and introduce his colleagues, who always work to keep each other safe.
A special edition of The Wolf Was Not Sleeping was developed for York Regional Police and York Beyond the Blue encourages members to use it as a conversation starter with their families to help support their holistic well-being.
Avril McDonald recorded a special book reading for YRP members. We encourage YOU to share with your own families.
